On June 13, 20111, I visited Winslow, Arizona. I continued out Highway 87 and visited Little Painted Desert County Park and Homol'ovi State Park ancestral Hopi villages.

The entrance to Little Painted Desert County Park is fifteen miles northeast of Winslow, Arizona on Highway 87.
Winslow-Toreva Highway Historical Marker: Dedicated to the honorable Carl Hayden, United States Senator and to the honorable Frank R. Goodman, former state highway engineer, both being good roads advocates, who by their close application and untiring efforts, contributed much to the establishment and construction of the Winslow-Toreva Highway.

Homol'ovi State Park visitor center. The park is located one mile northeast of Winslow on Highway 87.

Homol'ovi State Park preserves ancestral Hopi villages in the valley of the Little Colorado River.
Sunset Cemetary Historical Marker: This monument marks the cemetary and vicinity of the site of Sunset, a Mormon Pioneer settlement founded by Lot Smith in March, 1876. The settlers, part of a colonization group called from Utah to Arizona by Brigham Young, came by way of Lee's Ferry. They erected a stockade of cottonwood logs for protection, and July 5, 1876, established the first post office on the Little Colorado River. They built a dam for irrigation and raised crops and livestock. Drought and floods, however, forced abandonment of Sunset in 1887.
